Abadie, B. R. (2007). Physical Fitness: The Gateway to Preventive Health. Forum on Public Policy: A Journal of the Oxford Round Table. Retrieved from Questia School.
Physical fitness in health care has so many benefits that is seems irrational for people to not partake. Exercise alone can not only prevent so many illnesses, like hypertension and obesity, but also make the person feel generally happier. From reducing the risk of osteoporosis to getting a heart attack, maintaining physical fitness is key. Good motivation and feedback will have people get moving. Potential quotes are “only 30 to 32 percent of American adults meet minimum exercise guidelines” and “high levels of physical activity are associated with low risk for developing CVD”. The author is very thorough in his journal and list many references.I will use this to help explain the various benefits of physical fitness. |
Blacksher, E. (2009). Health Reform: What's Prevention Got to Do with It? The Hastings Center Report, 39(6), 49. Retrieved from Questia School.
When it comes to health reform, preventative care should be held as the most essential. Preventative health (which has three levels at the primary, secondary, and tertiary) saves more money if implemented well. The biggest challenge is to change human behavior, something that can prove very challenging. Potential quotes are “behavior change usually requires extensive environmental and social supports” and “health contributes to the well-being and productivity of individuals, communities, and society.” This source is credible because it has been written within the last decade and the author, Erika Blacksher, is a research scholar at The Hastings Center. I will use this to define preventative healthcare. |
Health & Human Services. (2013). Michigan Academician, 41(2), 166. Retrieved from Questia School.
In the academic journal, “Health & Human Services” a less popular, but perhaps the most important side of healthcare is on topic. It speaks of improving the storage and database of electronic medical records. It also presents the strong belief of maintaining good health with programs focused on eating nourishing foods and partaking in exercise. Prevention, in healthcare, is number one. I managed to derive several quotes from this journal one of which being, “Musculoskeletal disorders and diseases are the leading cause of disability in the United States” another, being “account for more than one-half of all chronic conditions in people over 50 years of age in developed countries”, and then, “prolonged exposure to ergonomically undesirable musculoskeletal postures may create related bio-mechanical disorders.” This article is credible because it comes from Eastern Michigan University, contains several contributors, and is part of the Michigan Academician. I will use this to talk about the prevention part of my presentation. If you could prevent all injuries, healthcare would not be a thing. |
