Research
What part of healthcare should be promoted the most? This essential question drives my research to discover what I should be doing right now and what I could be doing in the near to far future. My research could give me insight on the ways I can make a positive difference to those I can influence.
The 3 things I most stumble upon online in terms of healthcare technologies is stem cell research, 3D printing, and prevention. Along with looking into their articles I have also learned in school their amazing potential. Stem cells are super cells that can differentiate themselves to what is needed. 3d printing gives us the power to construct artificial prosthesis and even organs. The two technologies complement each other well and perhaps it will soon be a possibility to grow body parts just as easily as growing a plant. However that day is far from us and until that time arrives, preventative measures are the goal. The dilemma with health care is the aim to fix the problem. Well, what if the problem didn’t have to occur. Nevertheless if injury is unavoidable, the final measure is to prevent further injury.
In the quest to answer my question I have spoken with several healthcare people I know and even listened to some speakers. I also searched through some articles, websites and returned to some healthcare books.
An outstanding fact is that more than 3.5 million kids under 14 earn medical treatment for sports injuries each year and more than half of those are preventable. This percentage was more than I assumed and only provides support in the importance of thwarting off injury. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US with Coronary Heart Disease being almost half. The thing with CHD is that most of the risk factors involved can be completely changed. Simply eating a healthier diet and exercising can prevent hundreds of thousands of deaths each year in the US alone. Prevention, prevention, prevention. That needs to be endorsed as much as possible as it saves people from unnecessary suffering.
